About Us

The Wraysbury Skiff and Punt Club (WSPC) was formed in 1931.Dragonboating was introduced to the usual pursuits – skiffing and punting- only fairly recently in the clubs history and Wraysbury Dragons raced in what is now the Premier League in the early 1990s. The Wraysbury team was disbanded in 1995 however a member of that team introduced Dragonboating to Moss Pharmacy as a team building event.

The Moss Firebirds and Moss Dragons were born taking part in the charity event circuit between 1995 and 2002. At the National Charity Finals in Nottingham in 1999 and at Eton in 2000 and 2002 Moss paddled away with the honour of National Charity Champions on each occasion. In 2001 at the Eton finals the Mossetttes made their only competitive appearance taking 3rd place in the ladies competition.

In 2002, looking for a fresh challenge, Moss entered the UK & Ireland Corporate Games in Norwich, winning gold medals in both long and short open events and the divisional title. This lead to a free entry to the World Corporate Games in Seville in November 2002. The racing in Seville was definitely a new experience and brought two silver medals and another divisional award.

At this point Moss decided to withdraw its dragonboat funding leaving the crew with no real direction or ambition for the following year. Then it was decided by the coach (Gavin) to form a league team and race in the Standard League. The new team name was taken from the roots of the club and the previous sponsors – Wraysbury and Moss Dragons (WAM).

Over the years since our league debut in 2003 we have worked our way to the top of the Standard League, coming second in 2004 and winning in 2005. We have paddled in the Premier League for the past two seasons however, due to a shortage of new members we will be racing in the Standard League for the 2008 season.

As a new start, we are returning to the original team name of WRAYSBURY DRAGONS.
